Bhubaneswar records season’s highest 43.7°C

Bhubaneswar: The capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded the season's and Odisha’s highest temperature of 43.7 degree Celsius on Thursday, throwing normal life out of gear.

Several areas and roads in the city wore a deserted look as people tweaking their daily schedule and taking several other precautions to beat the heat. Many trading and business establishments downed their shutters by noon due to intense heat wave that continued till late afternoon.

The mercury level soared up to 40 degree Celsius and above in 16 places including Balasore (41.2), Chandbali (43.5), Cuttack (41.0), Angul (41.9), Baripada (41.6), Jharsuguda (41.5), Keonjhargarh (42.4), Sambalpur (41.2), Sundargarh (40), Hirakud (41.2), Talcher (42), Bhawanipatna (41.5), Balangir (41.6), Titlagarh (43) and Sonepur (40.8).

Meanwhile, the local Met office here warned that severe heat wave condition for another one week while the situation has reached an alarming level, especially in the coastal region, where the humidity levels add to the heat factor and misery of the people.
