Eight Maoist militia members surrender in Odisha

Koraput: Eight Maoist militia members of Bandhugaon Area Committee of CPI (Maoist) Organisation under the Srikakulam-Koraput Divisional Committee under the Andhra-Odisha border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), on Wednesday surrendered before the police in Koraput in Odisha. 

The eight Maoists identified as Bittu Bidika and Ludra Bidika of Kusumput village, Sarpati Nachika of Krupakhal, Bisi Mandingi, Sima Meleka and Sukuru Mandingi of Upper Jamuguda, Satya Mandingi of Chekaparhu and Bari Meleka of Tala Jamuguda surrendered before Southwest range IGP Yashwant Jethwa at Koraput district police headquarters.

With the latest surrender, the total number of Maoists who have surrendered in 2014 in the district has gone up to 47, the IGP informed in a press conference.

According to the IGP, the surrendered militia members joined the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS) in 2009 and provided leadership in their respective areas and were leading CMAS along with CMAS Bandhugaon leader Late Arjuna Kendruka of Kesubhadra and Kondagiri Paidama of Badabankidi. Later they joined the CPI (Maoist) organization and became active leaders of Bandhugaon area committee under AOBSZC) and trained in weapon handling, IEd making, landmine planting and blasting etc.

Meanwhile, the IGP informed that they all will be provided help under the surrender policy of Odisha Government.
