347 Odisha SPOs elevated as Constables

Bhubaneswar, April 22: A total of 347 Special Police Officers (SPOs) were elevated to the post of Constables in the State.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved a proposal of the State police headquarters to this effect here on Wednesday.

The SPOs who were working in the nine Naxal hit districts like Sundargarh, Rayagada, Deogarh, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Koraput, Nuapada and Rourkela were appointed as Constables in the Odisha Auxiliary Police Force after completion of three years of service.  

Of the total 347 SPOs promoted to the post of Constables highest of 196 belong to Rayagarh followed by 67 from Koraput, 35 from Deogarh, 20 from Jajpur, 12 from Ganjam, eight from Keonjhar, six from Rourkela, two from Sundargarh and one from Nuapada.

Notably, the State Government had appointed tribal youths as SPOs to give them an opportunity to remain in the mainstream of the society instead of joining the Maoist brigade.
