Online Odia certificate course for NROs from next year

Bhubaneswar, July 2: In order to carry forward the grand legacy of Odia language, the Odisha Government has decided to allow the nonresident Odias (NROs) to get certificate by clearing examination in Odia language on online basis. 

“I would like to announce that the Government of Odisha has decided to facilitate Odia Certification Courses on Online basis for the benefit of Non-Resident Odias (NROs) globally and for the students residing outside Odisha from 2017,” Chief Minister Naveen Patanik announced on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said that the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) would conduct the lower Odia test and the curriculum of the test would be equivalent to Class-VII standard Odia.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had directed the School and Mass Education Department to prepare a system for the NROs so that they can easily get education in their mother tongue after getting request in this regard from Odisha Society of The Americas. 

“For this The Odisha Society of Americas (OSA) and other organizations had made an appeal to me earlier. This will benefit the second generation of Odia children living outside the countries and will carry forward the grand legacy of our language,” observed the Chief Minister.

The examination would carry a total of 70 marks (30 marks for short answer, 10 marks for translation from English to Odia, 20 marks for translation from Odia to English and 20 marks for essay, stated a Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) communiqué.

While the examination fee for NROs residing in other States fixed at Rs 1,500 the fee has been fixed at USD 100 for the students living in foreign countries, added the communiqué.
