Naveen launches Biju Kanya Ratna Yojana for fairer sex

Bhubaneswar, Sep 3: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday launched Biju Kanya Ratna Yojana for all round development of girl child.

“This innovative scheme underlines our commitment and endeavor to promote equal opportunities for women and their empowerment through changes in societal attitudes,” said Patnaik while launching the scheme at a function at the State Secretariat here.

The scheme to be rolled out in Angul, Dhenkanal and Ganjam districts for a period of three years aims to create an enabling environment for the survival and development of the girl child, secure her life and ensure her dignity in living.

The initiative was launched as part of Biju birth centenary.

“Bijubabu’s initiative to keep 33% seats reserved for women in Government has given a tremendous platform and opportunity to the women of the state to not only match but also surge ahead of their male counterparts in various fields of excellence,” said Patnaik.

“Girls are the pride of our nation. Excelling at the recently held Olympics, the highest pedestal of sports, our girls have proven their mettle bringing glory to our country and countrymen. Six girls from Odisha who were also part of the Olympics contingent this year have made us all bask in glory of their talent and achievement. Along with sports, our girls have broken many a glass ceilings by thriving in all spheres of life and profession proving their excellence time and again,” said Patnaik.
He appeal to all citizens to join hands and work towards eliminating all forms of discrimination towards girl child by generating equal opportunities for them to prosper.

The CM also dedicated 1,000 Anganwadi Centres across the State to public.

These Anganwadi Centres will provide several outreach services in rural areas related to nutrition, immunization and early childhood education and will be the cornerstone of human resource development, said Patnaik.

“The State Government is committed to provisioning own buildings for all Anganwadi Centres across the State by 2019. The inauguration of these 1,000 Anganwadi centres today is a huge step in that direction and will enhance service delivery at the grass root level,” added Patnaik.
