World-class Interpretation Centre launched at Konark Sun Temple



Konark, April 1, 2018: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday inaugurated a state-of-the-art world-class Interpretation Centre and Tourist Amenities at Konark Sun Temple here marking the Utkal Divas.

The Indian Oil Foundation, a non-profit Trust fully funded by IndianOil Corporation Ltd, under the aegis on Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has developed the facilities around UNESCO Wold Heritage Site of Sun Temple Konark at a cost of Rs 45 crore.

The Tourist Facilitation Centre is laced with adequate parking bay for buses, cars and two wheelers of the visiting tourists, driver’s facility block, ample public amenities like cafeteria, toilets and drinking water among other facilities. The main avenue leading to the temple from outer ring road has been developed with paver block, water bodies and suitable landscaping.

A drop-off point has also been developed closer to the temple where parking facilities for cars, three wheelers and two wheelers is provided alongside toilet blocks, waiting lounge, water points, snacks counter, rain shelter and landscaping.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Minister Pradhan complimented the IndianOil Foundation for developing the visitor-friendly infrastructure and associated facilities, including a state-of-the-art Interpretation Centre that showcases the unique architectural features of Konark Sun Temple.

He also complemented Raghunath Mahapatra for recreating the sculptural wealth of Konark sun Temple at the Interpretation Centre for the benefit of both national and International visitors.

Shigeru Aoyagi, Director and UNESCO Representative to India, Adwaita Charan Gadanayak, Director General, National Gallery of Modern Art, Sanjiv Singh, Chairman IndianOil, JC Nakra, CMD, Engineers India Ltd, Padma Vibhushan Raghunath Mahapatra, Padma Sudarshan Sahoo and Padma Prabhakar Maharana were present.
