Odisha Congress decries Karnataka Governor’s partisan act, observes ‘Save Democracy Day’

Bhubaneswar, May 18, 2018: Decrying the alleged partisan and authoritarian act of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala inviting the BJP to form Government in the State, the Odisha Congress on Friday observed ‘Save Democracy Day’ by sitting on a dharna near Raj Bhavan here.

The Congress was observing the ‘Save Democracy Day’ across the country by staging demonstration in front of Raj Bhavans and all the district Headquarters protesting against Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala’s move to invite BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa to form the government in that state despite falling short by eight seats to get a simple majority in the 224-member Assembly.

The party activists here under the leadership of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik raised slogan against the BJP.

The Congress launched a nation-wide dharna in front of Raj Bhawans at State capitals and all district headquarters protesting the alleged partisan and authoritarian act of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala inviting the BJP to form Government in the State at a time when Congress and JD(S) have submitted the list of MLAs which is more than the required number to form the Government.

Later in the day, a delegation of senior party leaders under the leadership of former PCC president Jaydev Jena submitted a memorandum to the President of India through Odisha Governor urging him to safeguard democratic principles and the sanctity of the Constitution.
